Having Fun in Class

F1 students have a great sense of humor.  They have been asking that I post some silly pictures of us having fun at school, so here are a few of them.  The last one is a picture of ME having fun.  :)

Exciting Week

Last week was an exciting week at Maple and in F1.  Not only did we receive a visit from members of the UW Husky Football Team, we also enjoyed performances by the Lion Dance Team (go Christiannel, Anthony, Juliana, and Allysa!), the Tinikling Dance Group (yay Andrea!), and the Seattle Police Department Motocycle Drill Team.  Moreover, we celebrated two birthdays in F1 (Happy Birthday, Diana and David!), Staff Appreciation Week, and our annual Maple BBQ.  A big thank you to families who were able to attend the BBQ and to students and families who sent flowers, notes, fruit, and other treats.  It is an honor and a joy to teach your children every day, and I am deeply touched by your kindness and generosity.

Municipal Government Field Trip

F1 recently took a field trip to downtown Seattle to learn more about the three branches of government at the municipal level and how they operate.  Students came ready with thoughtful questions and were (for the most part!) on their best behavior.  We met Mayor Mike McGinn, City Councilmember Mike O'Brien, and Presiding Judge C. Kimi Kondo, and students had the opportunity to ask questions of all three.  We also had a chance to visit the City Marshals' office, go into the holding cells, and get handcuffed!  I received an email from a representative of City Hall yesterday that read, in part: "I also wanted to let you know that your students ... are the best informed student group I've met while working at the Mayor's Office."  Well done, F1!!

It was a wonderful opportunity that would not have been possible without our amazing chaperones: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Patawaran, Ms. Dang, Mr. Porcaro, Ms. Junie, and Ms. Rocio.  Thank you so much for volunteering your time and energy!
